Ford Cougar ST200 '1999

In 1999, the Cougar ST200 was presented to the press as a more powerful, sportier version.

A number of pre-series models were produced and used at trade fairs, press events and photo shoots. All preparations for a market launch including advertising campaigns, information to insurers and spare parts manufacturers up to the display of the brochures at the authorised dealers had been made; however, sales were literally stopped at the last second for market analysis reasons and the Cougar ST200 was never delivered.

According to official information, the pre-production models were all destroyed. Only three existing copies are documented.

The car body structure was an aluminum monocoque, on which carbon fiber panels were attached. To prevent the GT90 from melting when the engine was running at extreme speeds, special heat-resistant ceramic elements were used in the design of the exhaust system - the same technology is used in American Space Shuttle spacecraft.
